The estate consists of ancient terraces of vineyards, olive groves and a large vegetable garden with aromatic herbs and over 150 varieties of fruit trees, which become the ingredients for Locanda Nerello's rich and genuine breakfast and cuisine.
Monaci delle Terre Nere is an organic farming project. The rescue of ancient local plant species has favoured the production of fruit trees, vegetables and aromatic herbs. We also produce some Slow Food presidia such as cavolo trunzo.
In the estate, you can taste Guido Coffa’s organic wine as you stroll along the vine rows that produced it. As a matter of fact, Etna is one of the best areas for viticulture, famous for producing some of the most refined Sicilian wines. The typical varieties of Nerello Mascalese and Carricante are among the authentic and exclusively local wines produced in our vineyard at Monaci.
We believe in the tenets of Slow Food philosophy, food that is “good, clean and fair”. Monaci delle Terre Nere revolves around the respect for Nature and the environment, we produce and buy Slow Food presidia. By good, we mean high quality food: only selected local products for breakfast, lunch, aperitivo and dinner. By clean, we mean with low environmental impact, and by fair, we mean a fair chain of production that respects conditions of fair trade.
